A website is one of the least expensive and easiest tools that can be used to market a small business.
85% of consumers use the internet to find a local business which suits their needs. Think about it, what do you do when you want to find a particular product or service online? Whether it be a new office chair, a florist, or a graphic designer who’s based locally - you turn to Google, perform a quick search and see what comes up in the search results. It’s crazy to think that nearly 40% of small businesses don’t have a website in 2019. If your business isn’t online and relies on word of mouth or traditional advertising to attract new customers, you’re likely missing out on potential sales.
So unless you’re a small business owner who isn’t interested in growing your brand - you need to have a website.
Here’s 5 reasons why your small business needs a website (if you currently do not have one).
1. Reach a Wider Audience
Technically speaking, with the internet you have limitless reach and can reach all four corners of the globe. In reality, a small business can benefit most from targeting local audiences and with a bespoke website it’s easier to do that than ever before. Remember, there’s more people in your region who are active online in one day than there will be reading expensive ads in their local newspaper.
2. Show Up in Local Search Results
People rely on search engines to find local businesses. It’s becoming second nature for people to simply “Google it”, and when they do you want to ensure that you’re seen first, or as close to first as possible!
You can optimise a simple website to show up for ‘near me’ searches in Google, you can be visible to potential customers looking for your products or services.
3. Build Trust & Credibility
Your website will form an integral part of your potential customer’s decision making. If your business and its products or services aren’t showing online than many people will take you less seriously than one of our competitors who is online. Many people use the internet prior to making a purchase so it’s important you are there to be seen. Websites help build brand credibility and can be likened to vehicle graphics and having a professional logo. In every brand, it's the detail that matters and websites are key to building out your brand story and filling in all of the above and beyond detail your customers want to hear about,
4. Customer Convenience
Customers can research your product or service when it is convenient to them. With a website you can display a 24/7 online billboard which serves as the perfect platform to showcase your small business and all it has to offer. You can show pictures, detailed technical information, time schedules and extra notes. For example, if your business has won an award in your market sector you can use this to help build trust and credibility as mentioned in the previous pointer.
5. Cheaper Than Print Advertising
A physical billboard or outside ad placement is astronomically expensive. So is running adverts in your local newspaper or monthly door to door publication. Sometimes spending £150.00 on a 1/8 sized advert which prints in black and white for one month can’t be justified. You’d achieve so much more with even a simple website for the same price and potentially reach a wider audience who are bound to be more keenly engaged after finding you through referrals or online search engines. A potential buyer who is keen to engage with your website is a much more likely sale than a switched off prospect glancing over a multitude of adverts in a magazine on a Saturday afternoon.
To inspire trust and build business credibility, your website needs to be well designed. As they say…first impressions are lasting impressions.
